607,177. Measuring tapes. CARLSON, F. O., and SULLIVAN, A. J., (trading as CARLSON & SULLIVAN). Jan. 29, 1946, No. 2807. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1945. [Class 106 (ii)] A measuring rule of the spring-governed type in which a tape is movable into and out of a case, comprises a disc rotatable about a fixed axis and serving as a spool upon which the tape may be wound and a detachable connection between the spring and the tape. The tape 20 is assembled in a case 22 provided with a central post 28 to which is fixed one end of a spring 32. Rotatably mounted on the post 28 is a disc 38 upon which is wound the tape 20. The tape 20 is brought through an opening 40 in the case 22 with guides 42, 44 at an angle to the bottom of the case. These guides have a braking action on the tape. To provide a means of easy replacement of the tape the outer end 36 of the spring 32 is provided with a tongue 52 which passes through holes 48, 55, 46 in the tape 20.
