Abstract
606,879. Dielectric heating. COMMUNICATIONS PATENTS, Ltd., and YOULE, F. Nov. 3, 1943, No. 18206. [Class 39(iii)] [Also in Group V] To subject plastic material to high frequency heating prior to moulding, a plunger 3 forces the material between an inner torpedo shaped live electrode 16 and the inside surface of a metal tube 4 which acts as the earthed electrode. The material passes through holes 19 in a mica or ceramic carrier 18 and then between a live electrode 15 and the inner surface of a nozzle 10, which acts as the earthed electrode. The electrodes 15, 10 may be closer together at the nozzle to obtain maximum plasticity prior to moulding. The carrier supports a rod 17 to which are removably attached the live electrodes. The rod 17 is connected to a source of high frequency alternating electric current of at least 30 Mc/s. The tube 4 is also electrically connected to the source and these connections are made by means of a cable of the low loss concentric type. The energization of the electrode system may be timed with the movement of the plunger or may be continuous. Two or more parts of the electrode system may be supplied with different voltages. Additional heating means may be used. A mica or ceramic layer may be moulded around the live electrodes or it may be formed homogeneous with the carrier. Specifications 517,798, 572,425 and U.S.A.
