Abstract

606,687. Regulating fluid flow. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 17, 1945, No. 27190. Convention date, Feb. 14. Addition to 598,913. [Class 135] [Also in Group XIII] A unitary flow restrictor and heat exchanger for refrigeration systems comprises two concentric tubes 22, 26, one containing a sintered mass 24 of non-compacted metal powder metallurgically bonded to the walls thereof and forming a multiplicity of tortuous capillary passages, and the other containing sintered non-compacted metal powder 28 metallurgically bonded to the walls thereof and to the outer walls of the first tube, so that fluid flowing through the second tube influences the temperature of fluid flowing through the first tube. The metal powder is predominantly copper, e.g. bronze or a copper-nickel alloy, and the pore size of the mass 24 is greater than that of the mass 26. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a flow restrictor as described in the parent Specification connected in series with a heat exchanger comprising two concentric tubes between which is a mass of sintered non-compacted metal powder. Between the heater and heat exchanger is provided a filter chamber containing two porous plates made from sintered non-compacted metal powder, between which a dehydratingor drying agent may be included. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
