606,334. Fluid bearings. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. April 26, 1941, No. 4443/43. Convention date, April 26, 1940. Divided out of 553,094. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XX] Air bearings for a gyroscope comprise a convex spherical surface 25<SP>1</SP> on the rotor casing, a cup-shaped member 26, forming part of the vertical ring 20, which is itself mounted on air bearings formed by members 23, 24 and 22, 21, means for supplying air between the spherical surface and the cup-shaped member and an auxiliary structure at one side of the member for preventing all movement of the casing relative to the vertical ring except about the horizontal axis. As shown, the auxiliary structure comprises a tubular stem 32 with spherical buttons 30, 33 projecting horizontally from the rotor casing and forming air bearings with corresponding cups 34, 35 which are supported from the side of the vertical ring 20 by a flexible diaphragm 41 giving a self-aligning support.
