Abstract
A coffee substitute is made by roasting a cereal bran or a mixture of cereal bran and coffee, in a closed roaster from which air is excluded, the mass being continuously agitated and displaced from the inlet to the outlet of the roaster during treatment. The steam escaping from the bran is retained in the roaster, which may be a vertical one. The product may be cooled after roasting. The bran may be separated from the coffee after treatment and sold separately or both may be ground together. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to a roaster in the form of a ball rotated at 15 to 20 r.p.m. and provided with internal baffle plates acting as agitators. A product comprising 70 per cent wheat bran, 10 per cent chicory, and 20 per cent coffee is referred to. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:A coffee substitute is made by roasting a cereal bran or a mixture of cereal bran and coffee, in a closed roaster from which air is excluded, the mass being continuously agitated and displaced from the inlet to the outlet of the roaster during treatment.
