Abstract
605,470. Mules. TEXTILE DE PEPINSTER SOC. ANON. Sept. 19,1945, No. 24214. Convention date, July 24, 1939. [Class 120(ii)] The backing-off friction clutch of a spinning mule is situated on an intermediate shaft, instead of in its usual position on the rim or driving shaft, and the reverse movement given to the rim-shaft during. backing-off is taken through the intermediate shaft, the friction clutch being subject to the actions of the run-in lever and the belt guide. From a pinion 2 on the back-, ing-off shaft 1, drive is transmitted through a shaft 4, carrying a change pinion 3 and sprocket 6, to a sprocket 8 on the intermediate shaft 9. The sprocket 8 rotates a friction cone 12, slidably mounted on the intermediate shaft to engage the internal friction surface of a pulley 13, which drives the fast speed pulley 14 by means of a rope during backing-off. The cone 12 is held in its inoperative position by the backing-off lever 18, 20 partially controlled by a rod 33, which is under the influence of a cam on the cam-shaft 25. Actuation of the camshaft allows a spring 32 to press the backing-off lever 18, 20 to the right at the appropriate time and, when a roller 21 on the backing-off lever 18, 20 has been released by an arm 22a of the belt guide 22, the friction cone 12 is pressed into the operative position to be reset after the backing-off operation by movement of the run-in lever 28.
