Abstract
Compositions for use in road and building construction comprise mixtures of heavy metal and/or alkaline earth metal soaps of fatty acids, heavy metal and/or alkaline earth metal soaps of resin acids, neutral hydrophobic substances, such as bitumen, fats, or waxes, and fillers. The soaps used may be those of calcium, zinc, lead, iron, or manganese, and the fatty and resin acids may be saponified separately or together. The material known as Swedish liquid rosin (a mixture of fatty and resin acids) may be used; alternatively, vegetable pitches, residues from the distillation of oils, or animal residues such as wool grease, and rosin pitch, which contain unsaponifiable materials and so eliminate the need for the addition of a neutral substance, may be used. The filler may be a diatomaceous earth. Pigments may also be added.
