Abstract

An article, e.g. a wood or paper laminate carries a hard smooth crease-resistant coating which is the synthetic resinous composition of Specification 604,903 in a cured condition. The composition is particularly suitable for paper laminates bonded with a phenol-formaldehyde resin. They may also be applied to metal surfaces. The coatings may be applied by pressure and a covering sheet or may be sprayed or brushed on and then heated, e.g. to 150 DEG C. In example (1) a composition of the kind described in Specification 604,903 is applied to a plywood panel and shims are placed around the edges. Entrapped air is allowed to escape and a polished glass or metal plate preferably with paper or cloth backing is placed on the resin. The assembly is pressed at 100 lbs./sq. inch at 250-275 DEG F. for 8-10 minutes. Example (2) is similar with a slightly different composition.
