Abstract

Glass is given 2 coatings of synthetics, (a) an inner layer of a thermoplastic or elastomeric synthetic, and (b) an outer layer of a duroplast powder. The glass is esp. in the form of bottles or of flat glass, e.g., windows or windscreens. The coatings have good bonding strength, resistance to scratching and alkali, low frictional resistance, and good transparency, are not tacky when warm, and give protection against splintering. Use of solvents can be avoided. Waste powder from the application of the outer layer can be re-used. Energy is saved by application of the powder layer directly onto the hot surface from the first application. The thickness of the inner layer can be reduced to 15 mu, and the thickness of the outer layer can also be reduced. The coated glass remains transparent after breacking.
