[Class 114] [Also in Group XXXV] A variable-pitch propeller shaft n drives, through intermediate gearing, the armature g of a dynamo-electric machine f, g at a higher speed than itself, to vary pitch and to generate current for de-icing, lighting, &c. The field coils f and brush gear o, p are mounted on the front end of the engine, and a magnetic clutch y, z may be employed so that the dynamoelectric machine may be used as a generator or a motor.
