Abstract
603,227. Knitting-machines. LAMBACH. F. Nov. 22, 1944, No. 23252. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1943. [Class 74(ii)] [Also in Groups XIX and XXXV] Means for automatically controlling the operation of a warp knitting-machine comprise an electric switch 874, Fig. 13, having an element 876 responsive to the number of revolutions of the main shaft and carrying spaced contact plates 880, 882, and element 800 responsive to the length of fabric being produced and carrying a contact number 802, an adjustable take-up device including a take-up roller 44 driven from the main shaft and an adjustably-mounted tension roller 46, and a reversible electric motor 302 in circuit with the electric switch and operatively associated with the take-up. device, the arrangement being such that when there is any deviation from a predetermined relationship between the length of fabric being produced and the number of revolutions of the main shaft, the switch closes whereby the electric motor is energised to adjust the position of the tension roller 46 and thus the speed of the take-up roller 44, to restore the predetermined relationship. Either or both of the drives for the elements 800, 876, may comprise a change gear to enable these elements to be rotated at the same speed. Similar means, Figs. 12 and 17 (not shown), are provided for maintaining a predetermined relationship between the length of warp yarn drawn from a warp beam and the number of revolutions of the main shaft, the arrangement in this case being such that when there is a deviation from the predetermined relationship, the beam brake, or an arm carrying the tension rod is automatically adjusted, 'to restore the predetermined relationship. In a modification, Fig. 15 (not shown), the arms carrying the tension rod are adjusted simultaneously by means of a single switch and reversible electric motor. The automatic controlling means may be supplemented by means for indicating the length of fabric being produced, comprising a measuring roller 574, Fig. 4, in contact with the fabric 42, the movement of the roller 574 being transmitted to a counter 572 and associated pointer 134 by means of gears including a change gear 120. Similar means may be provided for indicating the number of revolutions of the main shaft and the length of warp yarn drawn from each of the warp beams: In a modification, Fig. 8, the various indicating means are arranged at a single station, and each counter and associated pointer is driven by an electric motor through a gear transmission including a change gear, each motor being in circuit with a further motor arranged near each of the warp beams 26, 28, near the fabric 42 being produced, and near the main shaft 22. The pointers may have connected thereto sound or light signals which are actuated when there is a deviation from a predetermined relationship.
