[Class 31(i) and 42 (i)] [Also in Group XI] Cutters 2, 3 for cutting-out blanks to form purses, or tobacco pouches, or for binding or trimming two layers of thermoplastic material are heated by high frequency electric treatment, and the electrical circuit which comprises the cutters 2, 3 as electrodes is automatically broken by the opening- of a normally spring-closed switch 6, 7 by means of an arm 13 adjustably secured to a piston rod 5 which advances the cutter 2 to operative position. The invention may be applied to the cutting or trimming of thermoplastic woven fabrics to produce a non-fraying selvedge, or (as shown in Fig. 4) for trimming and binding together layers la, 1b of sheet material. Rods or tubes may be treated to form a smooth cut. Specification 555,645 [Group XI], is referred to.
