Abstract

An evaporator comprises a rotatable drum divided by partitions into annular chambers, scoops on the partitions for transferring liquid, introduced into an outer chamber, from one chamber to the next in an inward direction, and means for passing steam or like evaporating medium through the chambers. The apparatus is suitable for evaporating liquids which foam or which contain small quantities of finely-divided solids. It may be used for the recovery of solvents from oil extracts, and for the deodorization of palm, cotton seed or soya bean oils. The evaporator may be used as a "second stage" evaporator to remove the remainder of the solvent from an oil extract previously treated in a primary evaporator. The apparatus is more fully described, with drawings, in the abridgment of Specification 602,818.
