Abstract

602,634. Valve amplifying circuits. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Oct, 17, 1945, No. 27203. Convention date, June 22, 1940. [Class 40 (v)] In a push-pull high-frequency amplifier, variation in the input capacity during gain control is prevented by inter-connecting the cathodes and providing ohmic impedance in the anode or screen circuit, the voltage across which is applied to the control grid of the opposite valve of the pair. Fig. 1 shows resistances 13, 14 in the screen-grid circuits coupled to the appropriate control grids by condensers 15, 16. In Fig. 3, the resistances 13, 14 are common to the anode and screengrid circuits, but may be in the anode circuit only (Fig. 2, not shown). In Fig. 4 (not shown), the coupling to the control grid may be via the control grid-screen grid electrode capacity ; in this case the current traversing each resistance is equal to the anode current of one valve less the screen current of the other valve. The ohmic resistance may be constituted by part of the output oscillatory circuit as shown in Fig. 6, which shows a circuit corresponding to that of Fig..4. At very high frequencies, resistances 13, 14 may be replaced by impedances to compensate for any phase-shift which may arise.
