Abstract

602,518. Fastenings. BLACKBURN, W. H. Oct. 16, 1945, Nos. 26983/45 and 635/46. [Class 44] A device for suspending clothes, fabrics, prints, drawings &c. comprises a hollow body of rectangular cross-section and partly or wholly of wedge formation and means for mounting it upon or detachably or otherwise securing it to a support in an upstanding position. The body has two parallel side walls 2 and front and rear walls 4, 5 converging downwardly. The side walls 2 are provided with upstanding slots 8 extending from the bottom of the body and a roller 7 of predetermined size is inserted through the upper part of the hollow body fitting freely therein so that its ends lie closely adjacent the parallel sides 2 but with a small clearance and when not suspending an article being free to move longitudinally as well as fore and aft throughout the length of the body down to a point approaching the lower end. Means for mounting the device on a clothes line may comprise a hook-shaped portion 25 of each of the parallel side walls 2 and a leaf or torsion spring 13 mounted towards the top of the body so that it extends centrally across the top between the portions 25. The line is gripped between the hooked portions 25 and the spring limb 14. In an alternative construction the upper parts of the slot 8 in wells 2 are tapered upwardly to accommodate and wedge the line.
