Abstract

602,199. Radial piston pumps for liquids. PAUGET, G. Oct. 25, 1945, Nos. 28234 and 28235. Convention dates, Oct. 28, 1944 and June 19, 1945. [Class 102 (i)] In a radial reciprocating pump which may comprise two sets of pistons 1, 3 coupled in series, the pistons 1 are immobilized hydraulically in their uppermost position clear of their actuating eccentric 4 when the delivery pressure from the pump reaches a predetermined value. The 'piston 1 draws liquid from the central suction chamber 34 through the aperture 1b and delivers through the conduit 2a to the piston urging it back towards its eccentric 5 and delivering the liquid under pressure to. the chambers 2b which are all connected by conduits to a single delivery collector from which is led a conduit in communication with a control piston 23, Fig. 3. When the delivery pressure reaches a predetermined value the piston 23 is lifted against a spring 24 and permits liquid to pass through passages 2f which are interconnected by an external channel ring (not shown) to the cylinder space formed by the reduced diameter of the piston 1 raising the piston 1 to its uppermost position where it remains until a reduction in pressure allows the piston valve 23 to return to its lower position, the liquid in the cylinder space returning under the action of a spring 21 to the central suction chamber via the passages 2f, 2g and 2d. In a modification, the piston 1 operates in a bush of two diameters which is subject to the hydraulic locking action and when moving to its uppermost position carries with it the piston 1 by means of a cross pin at the same time releasing liquid from the cylinder by lifting the suction ball valve off its seat. In a further modification liquid under maximum pressure passing through the conduit 2f operates hemispherically-ended plungers which engage annular recesses in the pistons 1 when in their uppermost position ; on pressure release the plungers are pushed into their cylinders by downward thrust of the return spring of the piston 1.
