Abstract
601,957. Sheet piles. JACOBSON, L. S. April 17, 1944, No. 7070. [Class 68 (ii)] [Also in Groups X, XXV, XXXII and XXXIII] A metallic structure comprises a basic sheet having a plurality of interlocked hexagons, each hexagon consisting of three equal rhombs, each rhomb having two of its sides contiguous with a side of two other rhombs and its larger angles less than 120 degrees, so that each rhomb lies in its own individual plane. This basic sheet, which resembles the midrib of a honeycomb, is either (a) pierced to form a reticulated structure, or (b) faced with a planar metal sheet on at least one side, or (c) provided on at least one side with metal walls such that six such walls enclose a cell (the structure then resembling a shallow honeycomb). Fig. 1 is a plan and Fig. 2 a section along x-x of a reticulated structure. In Fig. 1, a typical hexagon is formed of three abutting rhombs N, M, O, which come to an upwardlydirected peak at a. Downwardly-directed peaks are shown at b. Points mid-way of the thickness of the sheet are shown at c, c<SP>1</SP> and c<SP>11</SP>. The sheet is perforated as at n. There may be combinations of (a), (b) and (c). Thus, cell walls may be welded or riveted to one side of the basic sheet and a plane metal sheet welded or riveted to the other side or to the cell side or both sides, and the rhombs in these structures may be pierced. Sheet piling may thus be made.
