[Class 83 (iv)] Unwinding.-In a machine for straightening by stretching a strip is pulled from an uncoiler 12, transversly movable in a gap 11, by a flexible member 16 passed over a drum 22 and actuated by a winch 14. The strip is severed, the two free ends are clamped in a gripper 13 and the loop about the drum 22 is fixed by engaging a pawl 18 on the drum carriage 19 with a fixed rack. A fluid cylinder moves the grippers 13 to effect stretching. The grippers 13 may be held and the carriage 19 moved to effect stretching. Specification 570,260 is referred to.
