[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 13, 1945.] [Class 75(iii)] A lighter is provided within its body with a device for raising a fuel impregnated wick consisting of a member having one or more points movable into engagement with the wick and displaceable parallel to the axis of the wick tube. The device may be a pushbutton 32, Fig. 3, whose point engages the wick through a hole in a sleeve 29 surrounding the wick tube 8 to avoid fuel evaporation. The push-button may be urged into inoperative position by a coilspring 33 or by leaf springs, and a collar 32a may be provided normally abutting against the inside of the lighter body. A push button 40, Fig. 5, may be mounted on a leaf spring 37 held at both ends by rings 38 and provided with lugs 37a which prevent it escaping, pressure on the button 40 causing deformation of the spring to allow the point 39 to engage the wick. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the device, Fig. 1 (Cancelled) comprises a star 17 mounted or cut on a spindle provided with a collar, which may be diametrically cut for engagement by a coin for rotating the spindle to raise or lower the wick. The wick tube 8 is slotted so that the wick 7 may be engaged by the star 17 which may be contained in a space 12 on top of fuel reservoir and separated from a compartment 12a for spare flints by a partition 25 welded by its edges. In Fig. 8 (Cancelled) the device comprises a hook 41 offset on a spindle 42 operable by a wing nut. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
