[Class 141] A form constricting garment, which term includes a bathing costume, has a control panel which comprises two layers of equal width and shape but not necessarily of the same height, superimposed on one another, the side edges of the layers being registered and attached to each other, one of the layers having a verticallyextending area of elastic material adjacent one side edge of the panel and the other layer having a vertically-extending area of elastic material adjacent the other side edge of the panel, the remaining, larger, portions of each layer consisting of flexible inelastic material. Figs. 2 and 3 show a corset having control panels 12 and 14 located at the front and rear of the garment and connected by a fabric strip 16, the flexible intermediate strips 18 and 20 being used to connect the remaining edges by means of hooks 22 and eyes 24. The front control panel 12 which is stitched to strip 16 at 50 and to strip 20 at 52 has an inner layer consisting of a vertically extending elastic strip 46 stitched at 48 to an inelastic cloth area 44 provided with a plurality of stays 54 and pockets 56 and an outer layer consisting of an area of inelastic material 36 stitched at 42 to a vertically extending elastic strip 40. The rear control panel 14 has an inner layer consisting of an inelastic strip 58, an area of elastic material 60 and inelastic area 64 provided with stays and pockets and an outer layer comprising an inelastic flexible strip 68 and an elastic strip 70. In modifications, garments have a front or rear control panel only. In a further modification Figs. 7 and 8, two control panels 106 and 108 constitute the lower portions of the front sections of the corset. The inner layer 112 of each control panel) consists of an elastic strip 126 and a cloth strip 124, this layer being stitched at 128 and 130 to the outer layer 110 which consists of a plurality of inelastic strips 114, 116 and an elastic strip 122. The elastic strips 122 and 126 forming the side edges of the panel are of equal widths at the same horizontal levels and taper upwardly.
