Abstract
599,550. Spectrometric apparatus. ARNOLD, J. C. (Standard Oil Development Co.). Nov. 15, 1944, No. 22595. [Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] In apparatus for observing the absorption characteristic of material contained in a cell 28, light passing through the body 28 affects a photo-cell 31, the output of which is observed on the screen of a cathode-ray oscillograph 9 after elimination of effects due to the characteristic of photo-cell 31 by the balancing photocell 30, which is illuminated through a cell 29 which may be empty or fitted with standard fluid. Equal amounts of radiation from the slit 26 of the monochromator 4 are directed towards the two photo-cells, a spectrum produced from source 21 by prism 24 being oscillated across the slit by tilting mirror 25 which is rocked in synchronism with the time base generator 11 of oscillograph 9. The A.C. output from the bridge is fed through the amplifier 37 connected to the plates 8 of the oscillograph. It is stated that arrangement may be used for measurement of absorption characteristics for ultra-violet and visible radiation.
