Abstract

599,452. Powder compacts. LOCKER, M. Sept. 3, 1946, No. 21433/45. [Class 18] The lid 1 and body 2 of a powder compact are formed with one or more sets of close-fitting complemental grooves and ribs 7, 8 which completely surround the powder compartment in the body. The compact is made as a plastic moulding of substantially circular shape, the powder compartment being of the same shape. A mirror 9 is positioned within a recess in the lid which is provided with a cowl embracing the hinge 3, an edge on the cowl engaging the edge of the body to hold the lid in a position in which the mirror can readily be used. The compact may be made of transparent or translucent material, and the grooves and ribs 7, 8 may be of tapered cross section. A strip of felt or rubber may be provided between the base of a groove and the top of a rib, or the top of a groove may itself have a narrow groove to to receive a corresponding narrow rib standing up from the bed of a groove. The lid may have an engraved or embossed outer surface, so that when a layer of ornamental material is placed behind the mirror, the surface of the lid appears decorated. The decorative appearance is enhanced by providing a double-sided mirror 9.
