Abstract
599,092. Filters. ST.-ANDRE, R. E. Sept. 11, 1945, No. 23437. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1943. [Class 46] An edge filter comprises a stack of impervious laminµ clamped together by means which act only on the marginal zone of the stack where the fluid enters so that the remaining parts of the laminµ are free to separate to a limited extent as, for example, when the filter is being cleansed by reverse flow of fluid. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a stack of plates 1 forming when assembled a cylindrical filter element, is clamped between annular elements 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>2</SP> which grip the plates near their outer edges. The liquid to be filtered passes inwardly and causes the plates to diverge at their inner edges. The clamping elements are pressed towards each other by a spring 5. The pressure on the plates may be distributed more evenly by the provision of annular clamping or spacing elements between the ends of the stack, such as, for example, the member 10<SP>1</SP> shown in Fig. 8. When the flow of fluid is outwardly, the clamping pressure is applied at the inner edges of the plates. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 14, washers 1 of impervious paper are interposed between narrow washers 10.
