[Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXXIV] In a mounting for the shaft of a grinding, boring or like tool, the shaft is mounted in bushes provided with means for forcing water under pressure between the shaft and bushes. The shaft 8 is driven by a pulley 9 and is mounted in a body member 1 on moulded frusto - conical bushes 2, 3 of cotton fabric impregnated with synthetic resin.. A nut 13 secures the bush 2 in one end of the body and the bush 3 is adjustable in the body to vary the amount of play between the shaft and bushes by means of a nut 17 and lock-nut 18. Water from a mains supply, or from an independent pump, is supplied to the bushes through a connection 29, a duct 19 and passages 20, 21 in the bushes, and is exhausted by passages 26, 27 to the interior of the body and thence through a connection 28. Leakage from the bushes may be prevented by a stuffing- box 22, as shown adjacent to the pulley, or by a turbine wheel 25 secured to the shaft and working in a groove 23 in the nut 13, as shown, at the other end. A cover nut 15 screwed on the shaft is provided.
