Abstract
598,275. Glazing paper. EMPIRE PAPER MILLS, Ltd., WILTSHIRE, W. A., and SMITH, W. Sept. 10, 1945, No. 23307. [Class 96] A pattern glaze effect is produced on paper by passing it between a pair of rolls, one of which applies pattern-carrying means, e.g. a plate embossed to not more than 0.003 ins. in height to compress the paper in desired areas, the paper then passing between super-calendering rolls to flatten any embossment and to enhance the pattern glaze thus produced. Alternatively, the effect may be produced by a continuous patterned sheet fed through with the paper. A pattern-carrier with portions of different hardness may be used instead of one with raised portions. The pressure is at 160 to 500 lbs. per linear inch, and the temperature 100‹ to 150‹ F.
