Abstract
A tissue for mounting photographs &c. comprises a base sheet having a uniform coating on both surfaces of a thermoplastic composition consisting of 15-50 per cent by weight ethyl cellulose, a plasticiser comprising 15-50 per cent by weight and a compatible non-volatile solvent comprising 20-60 per cent by weight. As a base sheet, glassine, paper or the material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Cellophane" may be used, and the ethyl cellulose employed preferably has an ethoxyl content of about 40-50 per cent by weight. The plasticiser may consist of hydrogenated methyl abietate, triphenyl phosphate, di - (para - tertiary - butyl - phenyl) - mono - phenyl phosphate, di - phenyl mono-(ortho-xenyl) phosphate, or di-(ortho-xenyl)-mono-phenyl phosphate. Hydrogenated oils such as hydrogenated castor oil, or stearic acid may be employed as solvents. To prepare the composition, the plasticiser is heated to 200 DEG F. and the other constituents added and stirred until the composition is entirely free of lumps. It may be applied to the base sheet by heated coating rollers, the treated sheet subsequently being passed over a chilled roller to harden the composition.
