Abstract

Hectograph dye compositions containing Crystal Violet are made by applying a layer of an aqueous dispersion containing about 40-80 per cent solids at least 30 per cent of which is Crystal Violet to a moving surface heated sufficiently to reduce the moisture content of the dispersion to less than about 2 per cent in a period of about 5-30 seconds, and within such period, removing the dried product from the surface as a powder having a moisture content less than about 2 per cent. The surface may be heated to 270-360 DEG C., and may be the surface of a revolving atmospheric rotary drum drier. The solids may comprise 35-45 parts Crystal Violet, 40-45 parts Chrysoidine, and 15-20 parts Rhoduline Blue. The powder may be mixed with a hectograph ink vehicle, e.g. carnauba wax, beeswax, mineral oil, lanolin, "Vaseline" (Registered Trade Mark), lard oil, lecithin, or oleic acid. Oleostearine, mutton tallow, or lard oil may be added to melted beeswax and the dye powder then added. Examples describe the drum drying of slurries of Crystal Violet and various mixtures thereof with Chrysoidine and Rhoduline Blue.
