597,828. Spinning and doubling machines. AKT.-GES., J. J. RIETER & CIE. June 5, 1945, No. 14184. Convention date, May 24, 1944. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] Cops of extra large size are made on ring-spinning or doubling -frames by allowing a cop tube of normal length to be almost covered with yarn in the usual way, then adding another tube to the original tube, a separate portion to the spindle, or both and continuing the building of the cop on the extension so formed. Further additional tubes may be applied. The length of the balloon formed by the yarn between the thread guide eyelet 1 and the traveller 3 remains substantially constant throughout the spinning or doubling operation and is never greater than' the length of the completed cop. The additional tubes 8 may be stiffened at their upper edge by crimping or by the provision of a metal ring. When extensions are added to the spindles recesses are provided in the tops of the spindles to receive abutments. on the extensions.
