597,249. Ornamental devices. SPEIGHT, S. F. May 30, 1945, No. 13511. [Class 93] A framework or reinforcing means has wrapped, coiled or superposed thereon a layer or layers of a base material composed of yarns, textile fibres, twisted fabrics, cord and slivers, strips of leather, paper or similar material, said base material being subsequently varnished and lacquered. The varnishing and lacquering may be carried out by applying a film or films of varnish, allowing to dry, applying a film or films of cellulose lacquer, preferably clear, allowing to dry, applying a further film or films of crackle varnish, preferably clear, and finally applying a colouring medium and then a clear lacquer. Fig. 1 shows an electric reading lamp and Fig. 2 a further ornamental device made by this process. The base may be of wood, metal or similar material. In the case of lamp shades and similar devices the several parts which may be of vellum, parchment or paper may be joined together by stitching with yarn, threads or thongs, said stitching or thonging being varnished and lacquered.
