Abstract

596,836. Skis. LANGLOIS, A. Aug. 9, 1945, No. 20429. Convention date, May 12, 1944. [Class 132 (i)] A device for fastening a boot on a ski comprises a plate provided with upwardly projecting L-shaped members between which the boot is wedged, the plate being mounted on the ski so that it can swing, in a plane parallel to the upper face of the ski, about a pivot located adjacent to the boot-heel but having spring lockmg means so that swing can only take place when the transverse strain exceeds a certain value. In Figs. 1 and 2, the boot is supported on plate 1 which rests on ski A, the plate being pivoted about screw 24. Plate 1 is provided with two L-shaped members 4 and with ribs 22 which run in grooves 23 in the ski, these grooves forming arcs of a circle having its centre at 24. Projection 11, forming part of cross-piece 7 at the front of plate 1, is engaged by a corresponding notch in latch 12, but as soon as the torque is sufficient to cause projection 11 to drive the latch 12 away against the thrust of spring 13, plate 1 is free to swing about pivot 24. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 contains additional Figs. 3 and 4 (both Cancelled) in which plate 1 has a recess 33 on its underside which is engaged by ball 30 until the torque overcomes the thrust of spring 31. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
