Abstract

596,727. Friction clamped shock absorbers. THYNE, J. B. Aug. 1, 1945, No. 19766. [Class 108 (iii)] A road vehicle shockabsorber comprises a central bolt 10, on which are strung, plates 11-13 alternately with friction discs 15, 16 and a lever arm incorporating at least two blades 14, nut and spring means 19, 17 on the bolt 10 for compressing the plate and disc assembly and supplementary bolts 20 penetrating holes in the plates. A spring washer 18 retains the nut 19 and the outer end of the arms 14 carry a common boss having a rubber bush 21. The shock absorber may replace a hydraulic shock absorber on a vehicle due to its direct fixing to the bolts 20 but the backing plate 11 may alternatively carry separate anchorage bolts. The discs 15, 16 are centralised by bosses 22 on the arms 14.
