Abstract
596,499. Boots and shoes. HOYLE, J., and ASHWORTH & HOYLE, Ltd. July 27, 1945, No. 19279. [Class 17 (ii)] A shoe or slipper with a platform or wedge heel is made as a turn shoe with the stitches which secure the sole invisible on the tread face. A leather, rubber or other' sole a is - channelled or scored on the inner face to form a flange a<1> under which the sewing machine foot may pass in attaching a filler cover b thereto. An upper c, which may be of double thickness of felt, has attached to its lower edge by zigzag or overlocking stitch c<1> a draw cord c<2>, and is stitched inside out to the filler cover b by stitching b'. The filler d of hair felt, rubber, cork or other material is then positioned and the draw card c<2> tightened to draw the filler cover b and upper c over it. After turning the shoe right side out, a loose sock may be inserted and the shoe is steamed on a last to shrink or shape it as desred. Ornamentation may subsequently be applied.
