Abstract

<PICT:0595581/IV/1> In the treatment of filaments, yarns and similar materials with fluids under pressure, by passing them through a pressure-fluid treatment chamber provided with inlet and outlet orifices for the textile materials, a baffle plate 14 (Fig. 2) positioned either above or below the outlet orifices 11, and inclined away from the direction of travel of the materials 13 serves to deflect the fluid stream issuing from the outlet orifices away from the path of the materials. The pressure chamber I may take the general form of that described in Specification 438,584. The discharge end of the chamber comprises a jet plate 3 held in position by face plate 4. To the jet plate 3 is attached a member 9 having orifices 11 therein which register with openings 12 in the jet plate, and through which the yarns 13 pass with minimum clearance. The baffle plate 14 may be integral with the face plate 4 or separate therefrom, in which latter case it may merely rest upon the shoulder of the face plate or be screwed or welded thereto. The streams of escaping fluid 16, in which any broken ends of thread are also carried, are drawn off and collected by conduit 17 which may be similar to that described in Specification 584,663. Any number of outlet orifices may be provided in the discharge end of the chamber, the baffle plate extending across the end of the chamber so as to serve all the orifices. Artificial filaments, threads or yarns having a basis of cellulose esters or ethers, linear polyamide condensation products or synthetic resins may be treated according to the invention with fluids such as hot water, steam, the vapours of solvents or softening agents for the materials, shrinking agents or saponifying agents, and such treatment is particularly valuable wherein the materials are simultaneously stretched or crepe-twisted.
