[Class 60] Apparatus for polishing wheel rims and the like has a frame member with at least three rolls to position the rim relative to polishing mops, and driving means for said rim. and is so constructed that movement of the frame from an operative to an inoperative position releases the rim from the driving means, the polishers and the positioning rolls. Two independently driven, adjustably inclined, parallel polishing mops 2, 3 are located in a structure 1 so that they bear on different halves of the inner periphery of a wheel rim 6. The rim 6 is supported by a spring-pressed roll 8 and a diametrically opposed fixed roll 10, both contacting the outer periphery, and a spring-pressed roll 9 contacting the inner periphery opposite to a driving roll 11 engaging the outer periphery, all the rolls being mounted on a frame 7 pivoted on trunnions 34. When the frame is moved from an operative position, as shown in Fig. 4, to an inoperative position, as shown in Fig. 3, a bent arm 13, pivoted at 14 to the frame 7, under the action of a roller 15, on one end of the arm 13, on a cam surface 16, moves the rolls 8, 9 out of contact with the wheel. The frame 7 is locked in the operative position by a plunger 23 engaging a recess in a web member 24 on the frame. A pedal 22 which operates this locking means also simultaneously operates the piston-rod of an air cylinder 21 to close a shield 18 pivoted to the frame 7. In a modification, the rolls 8, 9 are moved by hydraulic means which also tilts the frame 7 and moves the shield 18 ; a stop on the structure 1 is provided, no locking means being necessary.
