Abstract
595,281. Paper containing fluorescent substances. LEVER BROS. & UNILEVER, Ltd., and THOMAS, R. April 12, 1945, No. 9135. [Class 96] Derivatives of di-aminobenzoylamino-stilbene-sulphonic acids, exhibiting blue fluorescence, in which at least one H atom in each NH2 radical attached to the terminal rings is substituted by an organic radical not containing a NH2 radical directly on an aromatic nucleus, are added to paper pulp, e.g. to cleaned, bleached pulp, or to paper as by spraying, by water doctor or by immersion, to incorporate up to 1.0 per cent of the fluorescent substance to give enhanced whiteness not noticeably affected by prolonged exposure to light. Methyl, benzoyl, and acetyl radicals and, e.g. 4 : 4<1>-di-p-ureidobenzoylamino-stilbene-2 : 2<1>-disulphonic acid are mentioned. The product may be used for wrapping goods to protect them from ultra-violet light. Specifications 442,530 and 522,672 are referred to.
