Abstract

Germicidal detergent compositions comprise a soap or detergent and a sulphur-containing compound of the general formula <FORM:1088498/C4-C5/1> where R is a phenyl or naphthyl radical, A is an oxygen or sulphur atom, X is a fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, a is 0 to 2 and b is 0 to 3. Detergents mentioned include cationic detergents (e.g. dimethyl stearamidopropyl - 2 - hydroxyammonium dihydrogen phosphate), anionic detergents, ampholytic detergents (e.g. sarcosine), non-ionic detergents (e.g. polyoxypropylene polyoxyethylene condensates) and natural detergents (e.g. starches and vegetable gums).ALSO:Germicidal compositions comprise a sulphur-containing compound of the general formula: <FORM:1088498/A5-A6/1> wherein R is a phenyl or naphthyl radical, A is an oxygen or sulphur atom, X is a fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, a is 0 to 2 and b is 0 to 3 and a carrier chosen from soaps, detergents (including natural detergents such as starches and vegetable gums), plastics, rubber and fibrous compounds or materials (e.g. cotton gauze, dressings, textiles or paper pulp).
