Abstract
Latex or other liquid is concentrated under vacuum in an apparatus comprising an evaporator connected to a source of vacuum, a preheater connected to the evaporator, a plurality of tanks connected to the evaporator and to the preheater, means for reducing the pressure in each tank, a circulating pump and valves in the conduits connecting the tanks to the evaporator and preheater which enable liquid to flow from one tank through the preheater and evaporator into another tank. In Fig. 1 an evaporator 1 communicates with three tanks 2, 3 and 4 through conduits 5, 6, 7 or through 8 and 9 and <PICT:0595132/III/1> preheater 10, with valves 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 4a and 4b respectively controlling the flow to and from the tanks. Each tank has four valve-controlled outlets communicating with the atmosphere, the supply of latex, a compressed air manifold 11, a vacuum manifold 12 and the liquid withdrawal pipe.
