Abstract

595,123. Stuffing-box substitutes. THOMPSON PRODUCTS, Inc. Feb. 11, 1944, No. 2564. Convention date, May 22, 1943. [Class 122 (v)] A seal is made between the hollow shaft or hub 12 of a rotary vane pump and a flanged cup or sleeve 14 by a ring 28 sliding on the flange face and secured to the shaft by a rubber &c. sleeve 35 having a reduced portion clamped on the shaft, a flexible middle portion allowing axial motion, and an enlarged collar which either laps the ring or is beaded to fit into a groove therein. The collar is held on the ring by a metal cup 38 pressed by a spring; the ring is rearwardly undercut to accommodate the mid-portion of the sleeve 35 when required by the axial movement. The cup may be formed with inturned tangs engaging slots of a hub of an impeller in an impeller pump &c.
