Abstract

594,856. Filters. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. July 2, 1945, No. 16842. Convention date, June 30, 1944. [Class 46] A filtering unit adapted for insertion into a fluid-circulating system has a channel for conducting the main stream of fluid in the system, a constricted section in the channel and byepass openings arranged to divert a portion of the fluid through a filter by reason of the difference of pressure resulting from the constriction in the channel. As shown, a channel member 5 interposed between pipes 7, 8 is formed with a channel 6 having a constricted portion 14. Openings 24, 26 in the channel lead to a chamber 19 formed by a collar 16 and cap 17, the chamber containing a filter cartridge 21. The arrangement is such that irrespective of the direction of flow of fluid through the channel 6 part of the fluid is byepassed through the filter, issuing therefrom through the opening 24.
