Abstract

594,665. Structural elements for metal frameworks. RAYLOR, W. Nov. 1, 1944, No. 21308. [Class 20(ii)] [Also in Group XXV] Structural elements for skeleton metal frameworks (e.g., Fig. 1) are formed of bars or tubes having integral flattened portions pierced by a polygonal tube whereby adjacent elements may be secured together in selected angular relationship by means of a bolt having a correspondingly polygonal shank. The flattened portions may be formed by drop-stamping the bars or tubes at their ends or intermediate places as at 17, Fig. 15, or may be lugs 15, Fig. 13, welded in place, or in the case of tubular elements may be formed on separate bars or tubes 3, Fig. 4, sealed in the ends of the tubes by welding or set-screws. The flattened portions are preferably offset by half their thickness from the centre line of the elements so that adjacent elements may lie in one plane. The hole is preferably octagonal. The elements may be straight, curved or bent.
