Abstract
594,324. Snap - action switches. ROBERTS, J. April 17, 1945, No. 9558. [Class 38(v)] In each pole of a heavy-duty, switch-fuse two convex contacts 32 are carried in grooves in an insulating drum 18 and each outwardly urged by blade-springs 33 to bridge a pair of fixed contacts 15, 36 mounted on insulating carriers 9, 12, so that the fuse 48 bridging the contacts 36 is completely isolated when the switch is opened. An operating bar 24 passing through aligned slots 23 in the drums is carried by two rocker arms 27, fixed on the spindle 17 outside the end-plates 1, one of which arms lies between a pair of driving pins 46 on the operating handle assembly. Snap-action is imparted by a dead-centre spring 30, lost - motion being provided between the arm 27 and pins 46, and the rod 24 and slot 23. A bar 21 mounted between the end plates passes through slots 22 in the drums to limit their travel. Transverse and longitudinal arcing shields are provided, Fig. 2 (not shown).
