[Class 69 (ii)] A low pressure intensifier unit for hydraulic presses and the like comprising a plurality of intensifiers coupled together hydraulically and electrically whereby operation of the press causes one intensifier to commence to build up high pressure and at the end of its stroke to automatically introduce a further intensifier until the predetermined high pressure is attained. When the press is fully closed by low pressure liquid a switch operates a solenoid which opens a distributing valve to supply low pressure liquid to the intensifiers, the first of which is at the bottom and the second at the top of its stroke, a switch on the latter then actuating a solenoid operated valve to admit liquid to the first intensifier. As the ram of the first intensifier rises it actuates a solenoid operated valve on the second intensifier, thereby opening it to exhaust. As the first intensifier nears the top of its stroke it again operates the switch which controls the valve on the second intensifier, this time opening the valve to admit low pressure liquid to the latter. The ram of the second intensifier commences to rise and when the predetermined high pressure has been attained, a switch opens to operate the solenoid which closes the distributing valve thereby cutting off supply of liquid to the intensifiers.
