593,303. Slide guides. SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES DU NORD. June 8, 1945, No. 14568. Convention date, March 6, 1944. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A guide for a sliding rod comprises at least three rollers located on opposite sides of the rod, some having a transversely displaceable axis and being resiliently pressed against the rod and there being not more than two rollers with fixed axes (if these are arranged at opposite sides of the rod), these rollers with fixed axes then being located in different planes transverse to the rod and the rod bearing thereagainst under the action of the resiliently pressed rollers. The rod is thus always held against the rollers and variations in size do not cause jamming. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, a sliding rod 1 of straight or curved form is guided between two pairs of rollers of hyperbolic shape 2, 3 and 4, 5, one roller 2, 5 of each pair having its trunnions 6, 9 fixedly located, while the other roller 3, 4 of each pair has its trunnions 7, 8 guided in oval slots 18 and constrained by springs 19 whereby the rollers are urged against the rod. The hyperbolic form of the rollers automatically returns the rod if displaced laterally from the position shown in Fig. 4, while any anti-clockwise tilting of the rod from the position shown in Fig. 1 is returned by the action of the spring-urged rollers 3, 4. Collars 13, 14 in conjunction with the frame 10 define the end limits of the rectilinear movement. Leaf springs or a helical spring joining displaceable rollers on opposite sides of the rod may be used instead of the springs 19 joining the fixed and displaceable rollers of a pair. Fig. 8 shows a form with two rollers 23, 24 having fixed axis and one resiliently mounted roller 25. Fig. 9 shows the guide applied to the support rod 32 'of a front slot baffle 31 of an aircraft wing 30. The guide is also applicable to the support rod of a movable deflector plate of a movable rear flap, Fig. 11 (not shown).
