643,748. Aero-engine cowlings. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. Nov. 14, 1947, No. 30249. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1946. [Class 4] An engine cowling of the type comprising three panels, of which one is mounted at the base of the engine and the others, one on each side thereof, and which when opened out to uncover the engine may be used as working platforms, is characterized by the fact that each lateral panel is pivotally connected to the engine frame near its lower end, while the lower panel is connected at its lateral edges to the other panels so as to be moved vertically upon movement of the two lateral panels. As shown, the lateral panels 1 are connected by pivots 3 to lugs 28 at the base of the engine, and the lower panel 4 is connected to the panels 1 by links 10. The latter are connected to the lateral panels through links 8, the ends of which carry rollers 14 which, when the cowling is closed, engage recesses 15 in the engine frame. The lower panel 4 may constitute an air duct.
