Abstract
592,770. Supports for electric conductors. POWER CENTRE CO., Ltd., STEVENS, A. H., and STEVENS, G. A. May 30, 1945, No. 13513. [Class 36] A support for electric conductors of different shapes and sizes, and comprising two members, made of insulating material, one being a block 10, the other a cap 16 drawn by screws on to the first member, has a gripping surface formed by a slot 21 in each or one member, the inner part of the slot being of rectangular section, the outer part providing two diverging surfaces 23 at obtuse angles, or approximately at right angles, to each other. The block 10 may be produced as a moulding of porcelain, synthetic resin or other insulating material, and has two end portions 11 in each of which is a hole 12 of non-circular section for receiving a nut 13. The block can be secured to a support 14 by screws 15 passed through the support, into the block, and then into the nuts 13. The cap member 16 has two holes 18 in the top for screws 19 which pass through it into the upper ends of the nuts 13 ; this member at its ends 17 may be of channel section so that the sides of the channels engage over the portions 11 of the block. The gripping portions extend on both sides beyond the faces 20, 16 of the two members. The cap may be stepped upwardly at 24 on either side of the slot 21, and the block may be similarly stepped at 25. Thus, circular or square section conductors are gripped between the diverging surfaces and others are held either horizontally in the stepped parts 24, 25 or vertically in the slots 21. Packing pieces may be used to accommodate conductors of varying thicknesses. A single support may be constructed with two or more pairs of gripping surfaces.
