[Class 142 (i)] A loom of the kind having a dobby motion for inserting a pattern or heading into the fabric at predetermined intervals, is provided with mechanism for automatically starting the dobby motion, such mechanism comprises a pivoted catch E having teeth e', e<2>, on its lower surface, which is reciprocated over the end of the takeup roller A by links and levers operated from the picking shaft C, and a measuring chain B having one or more, spaced, projections b, each having a pin b<1>, which is carried by a sprocket wheel on the shaft of the take-up roller, each projection b as it travels with the take-up roller being engaged through the pin b<1> by the tooth e<1>. which causes the projection to lift a connecting rod F to the dobby motion to bring the dobby lattice pattern or heading motion into operation. After the tooth e<1> moves out of engagement with the pin b', the second tooth e<2> engages the pin and pushes the projection b away from the connecting rod F thereby allowing the latter to fall back into its initial position leaving the automatically started dobby lattice pattern or heading motion to operate.
