Abstract
591,886. Chairs. BERNUTH, LEMBCKE, CO., Inc. April 18, 1945, No. 9750. Convention date, July 23, 1940. [Class 104(ii)] A rail retaining clamp plate C, Fig. 1, has one end 16 adapted to engage a rail flange and the other end bent backwards to form a short arm position 11 below the main body portion 12, the arm and the body having vertically aligned apertures 13, 14 adapted to receive a tie-plate-retaining track spike. The end 11 and the body 12 may be in. contact, as in Fig. 8, and the end 16 may be slit, and part of the plate bent downwards to form a rail flange engaging lug 18. The apertures 13, 14 may be square and have their sides parallel and perpendicular to the sides of the plate C, as in Figs. 1 and 8, or they may be disposed obliquely as in Fig. 5 so that the plate C may be obliquely placed relatively to the rail edge. The spike shank preferably tapers upwardly adjacent its head, the bottom curvature of which is in conformity with the curvature of the body portion 12, and the shank may be off-set at its upper end, as in Fig. 11. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the clamp plate may have only a single aperture in the body portion, and have no underlying short arm portion.. Also the inner end may be bent under as at 23, Fig. 14 (Cancelled), while the outer end 25 is adapted to seat upon the track spike, a bolt 27 and nut 30 being provided to tension the plate. The outer end may alternatively be adapted to engage behind the spike head, as at 31, Fig. 18, (Cancelled), while the inner end may have laterally opposed fingers 32 and may also include a third flange engaging finger 33. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
