Abstract
591,674. Brushes. WOUD, A. G., and GILLETTE INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 10, 1945, Nos. 6040/45 and 11036/46. [Class 19] In a brush in which the effective length of the bristle head can be varied by means of a surrounding sheath movable longitudinally by relative rotation between the stock and the sheath, the latter is caused to project from between the stock and a co-axial outer casing, the stock being held against axial movement in the casing. The Figure shows a brush in which the bristle head is screwed to the stock 1, the outside of the stock 1 being threadedly engaged at 1a and 5a with a displaceable sheath 5 of external polygonal form as at 17a to engage an outer casing 11 of internal polygonal form. The flange 12 of the stocks is held between shoulder 13 and a clamping ring 14 screwed to the casing and provided with an arcuate slot 15, into which a pin 16, screwed through a hole in the buttom of the casing protrudes, to allow the clamping ring to be turned back sufficiently to release the stock for rotation by means of a finger piece 17. Square or acme threads are used for the screw unions. In a modification the flange 12 may be a friction or screw-fit in the casing so that the casing and stock are secured together.
