591,575. Fluid - actuated valves. TALLEY, H. A. E. May 14, 1945, No. 12026. [Class 135] [Also in Group VI] Anaesthetic control apparatus in the form of a fluid-actuated valve comprises a regulator 2 containing, a diaphragm-actuated valve 7 for nitrous oxide, and a venturi-jet arrangement 9 to mix air with the nitrous oxide, the air inlet to the arrangement 9 being a tube 12 connected to the atmospheric side of the diaphragm. In use, the patient's inhalation. through tube 4 affects the diaphragm 3 which bears on levers 5 pivoted at 6 which in turn bears on valve 7. Gas passing venturi jet 9 draws air in through hole 10 and tube 12. If hole 10 is-blocked up, the negative pressure induced by the venturi arrangement is transferred to the atmospheric side of the diaphragm and valve 7 cannot open.
