Abstract
590,966. Electric coils. PIRELLIGENERAL CABLE' WORKS, Ltd., and BARRON, H. April 26, 1945, No. 10477. [Class 35] A coil is formed by first providing the wire with an insulating enamel coating and then coating it with liquid plastic material consisting of a phenol formaldehyde or urea formaldehyde resin or of partially polymerized styrene or methyl methacrylate, and winding it into the desired coil form, the superimposed coating being solidified after the coil is wound. The insulating enamel may be covered with an additional layer of silk, paper, cotton, &c. and the liquids layer, added by drawing the wire. through the plastic material, may also be passed, through a die to remove superfluous plastic. The wire may be heated immediately Before winding to remove solvents in the liquid plastic, and subsequent heat or merely standing, a setting agent being added if desired, produces polymerization or thermosetting to a solid, form. The preliminary enamel may comprise. oil-modified resins or synthetic resins.
